Fans of Knights of the Old Republic are rejoicing – after just 21 years, the series is getting an unofficial sequel. Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is being developed under the direction of original KOTOR creator Casey Hudson, who intends to revive the series with greater ambitions. PC Gamer Portal speakWhat is known about the game at the moment.

Game release date
Fate of the Old Republic has no expected release date or timing. As Casey Hudson noted, the project is in the early stages of development and the authors still have many issues to resolve. At the same time, Hudson joked that the game wouldn't have to wait until 2030 – perhaps it's worth thinking about 2027-2028.
The plot and setting of the game
Not much is known about the plot of Fate of the Old Republic either, but some details can be gleaned from the interview with Hudson and the game's trailer.
- The game will be an action RPG. That is, it will probably be more like Mass Effect than Knights of the Old Republic.
- The fate of the Old Republic is not a direct continuation of the previous story. You can't hope too much for seeing old familiar characters again.
- The main character uses the Force and the player's decisions will tilt him towards light or darkness.
- The game takes place at the end of the Old Republic period.
- The two possible companions are the droid and Quarren.
- Most likely, the predecessor civilization is somehow related to the plot.
Mechanics and gameplay
Based on an interview with Casey Hudson, we can conclude that Fate of the Old Republic is positioned as a spiritual successor to the original Knights of the Old Republic – Hudson worked on the first game of both. According to him, Fate of the Old Republic offers the opportunity to realize a modern Star Wars game in every sense, combining the freedom of player choice and immersion that is at the heart of KOTOR.
According to Hudson, he and Arcanaut Studios, where he will serve as project director, wanted to create a game that they themselves would enjoy. Specifically, an emotional, cinematic adventure fueled by freedom of action, narrative depth, and immersive world-building.
So KOTOR fans can expect something very similar, but perhaps with some influence from Mass Effect – Hudson also worked on that series.
