The arrest of Timur Ivanov was extended for another three months

January 20, 2026

The Moscow City Court has extended the arrest of former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov until April 23 as part of the investigation into the criminal case of him receiving two bribes totaling more than 1.3 billion rubles.

The arrest of Timur Ivanov was extended for another three months

The reporter reported this news from the courtroom.

“The requirements of the investigation have been met, extending the arrest period for defendant Timur Vadimovich Ivanov by three months, i.e. until April 23, 2026,” judge Dmitry Gordeev announced the decision.

After the meeting, the defense told that they would appeal the extension of Ivanov's detention.

The trial was once again held closed to the media and the public at the request of the investigator, who made his request because of the secrecy of the preliminary investigation. The Moscow City Court will then consider similar requests from the investigation to renew the arrest of businessman Alexander Fomin, who pleaded guilty, and businessman Sergei Borodin, who signed a cooperation agreement in the investigation.

As previously reported, the investigation into the case of the former deputy minister has been completed and former Deputy Defense Minister Timur Ivanov, who was accused of accepting bribes and illegally trading arms, did not admit to any of the charges against him. Ivanov's defense told him that they intend to prove his innocence in court. Ivanov was detained for nearly two years; he was arrested in April 2024.

In the final version, Ivanov was charged with three counts of accepting bribes on an exceptionally large scale (Part 6, Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), money laundering on an especially large scale (Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), as well as illegal possession and production of weapons (Article 222 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and Article 223 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
