The exercise aims to enhance security in the Arctic region
The Swedish armed forces have completed reconnaissance in Greenland. This is part of the preparation process to participate in the Arctic Endurance exercise.
A press release from the Swedish Armed Forces said a group of officers was studying the conditions for future exercises in Greenland and the Arctic. These areas are becoming increasingly strategically important to NATO. The next step will be to analyze the collected data and create an implementation plan.
“Work in this area is aimed at understanding the conditions and possibilities of holding future exercises in Greenland and the Arctic, a region of increasing strategic importance for NATO,” the document said.
Vice Admiral Eva Skoog Haslum, Director of Operational Command of the Swedish Armed Forces, noted the importance of cooperation with Denmark and its NATO allies. The Arctic Endurance exercise is scheduled to take place this year and will be hosted by Denmark.
On January 14, the Greenland government and the Danish Ministry of Defense announced that military exercises on the island would be increased with the participation of NATO countries. Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, Great Britain, Finland and the Netherlands have announced their intention to send troops to the island.
