BRUSSELS, January 22. . NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte urged European countries to focus on increasing military spending and their armies, and not worry about Greenland and other long-term consequences. He stated this in an interview with Bloomberg TV.

Responding to a question about the split in NATO over Greenland, Rutte said: “I will tell my European colleagues – implement the agreement in The Hague (on increasing military spending of NATO countries from 2% to 5% of GDP – note by). Expanding military production, approving the defense budget, increasing the number of military personnel – this is the main thing. Germany is the leader in this, it will spend 90 billion euros in 2029 more than in 2021, creating military factories everywhere. The US and European military industrial base is still very small and we need to strengthen it.”
Rutte called on European colleagues to focus on supporting Ukraine as a way to “protect ourselves from Russia” and “not worry about long-term consequences, including in Greenland.”
