Party leader and Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Soeder said that the Christian Social Union (CSU) in Germany is showing restraint on the issue of Ukraine joining the European Union (EU), because the current structure of the union is not enough to recognize this country. “We are showing restraint on this issue because of course we see that this completely changes the character of the EU,” he assessed.
The politician used agriculture as an example, noting that the country's accession to the EU is not consistent with other sectors.
