On January 23, Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova announced that after the death of Igor Zolotovitsky, the position of rector of the Moscow Art Theater School will be taken by Konstantin Bogomolov. However, many people did not accept the appointment.
A graduate of the Moscow Art Theater School wrote an open letter to the Minister of Culture, speaking out against Bogomolov as rector. In their opinion, Zolotovitsky's successor could only be someone who was raised within the school's walls by the Moscow Art Theater teachers and whose origins were directly related to the Studio School.
Chairman of the Actors' Union of the Russian Federation of Cinematographers, Sergei Nikonenko, also spoke out about Bogomolov's appointment. He explained why members of the Moscow Art Theater were dissatisfied.
“There is a reason why the actors contacted the Ministry of Culture. They wanted them to be taught in the tradition of the wonderful school, the best in the world, organized by Konstantin Sergeevich Stanislavsky,” Nikonenko said.
The artist also said he had experience interacting with Bogomolov. And it's hard to call it positive.
“I was offered to work with Konstantin. I did not like his arrogant, condescending attitude towards artists. I have not seen this from good directors, but I have acted with good directors. This is a stupid position from above to broadcast something. I said that we have nothing to say and refused to work with him”, Nikonenko shared with “Paragraph”.
