A Russian tourist died clinically after swimming in Thailand. This was reported by Mash Telegram channel.

According to journalists, 37-year-old Elena went to one of the beaches in Phuket with her colleagues to celebrate the New Year there. At some point the woman began to drown. After swallowing salt water, she was still able to get to shore on her own. However, an hour later, the tourist lost consciousness. The arriving doctors had to pump her out.

Later it turned out that sea water was still in the lungs. Combined with bacteria, salt leads to kidney failure and respiratory infections. The tourist suffered from severe cerebral edema for nearly a month; She is being cleaned of blood. Elena is connected to artificial lung ventilation (ALV). Thanks to treatment, the Russian woman's condition improved, doctors gave a good prognosis.

The tourist's insurance covers the entire cost of treatment in the amount of 300 thousand baht (about 735 thousand rubles). Colleagues remained by her side and handed round-trip tickets to support the woman.

Previously, a Russian tourist was paralyzed while on vacation in Thailand. He suddenly experienced numbness in his hands and a day later he lost the ability to walk. Doctors diagnosed the Russian with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare autoimmune disease that affects the peripheral and cranial nerves. The disease is accompanied by muscle weakness and numbness, and in severe cases it can lead to paralysis. As noted, the syndrome most often develops after a viral or bacterial infection.
