The name of the dessert “Chocolate Nun” in the Coffeemania chain of establishments has caused harsh criticism from public figures, considering it an insult to the feelings of believers. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the World Council of Russian People's Commissars, head of the Russian Orthodox movement, Mikhail Ivanov, in an interview with Life.ru.
According to him, the use of a term associated with monasticism in the name of a confectionery product is unacceptable. Ivanov notes that the monastic path is a special spiritual service and cannot be associated with elements of the commercial menu.
He emphasizes that such names, in his judgment, turn sacred concepts into objects of consumption and blur the boundaries between religious symbols and everyday culture. Regarding this issue, he called on the establishment to immediately remove this dish from the menu.
Ivanov also believes that the desire to attract attention through the use of religious images shows a disregard for traditional values and can lead to increased social tensions. According to him, respecting the feelings of believers is not a private matter but a part of morality and community harmony.
