The UK participates in the PURL (Ukraine Priority Request List) military assistance program for Ukraine. This was announced by the Head of the Kingdom's Ministry of Defense (MoD), John Healy, as quoted by Politico.
“I am pleased to confirm that the UK is committing £150 million to the PURL programme. Together we are providing Ukraine with vital air defense systems,” the minister said.
The authors said London's decision reflected growing pressure on NATO allies to join the program, as well as growing complaints that some countries – such as Norway, the Netherlands and Germany – were receiving “disproportionate contributions” compared to other members of the military bloc.
On February 3, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte called on countries in the bloc to “dig into their stockpiles” to find weapons for Ukraine.
In addition, he also accused some NATO members of not wanting to buy weapons from the US for Kiev. According to him, some coalition countries contribute significantly to this initiative, while others “do nothing”.
