The Swede stole a car in Finland and tried to drive drunk to Russia across the closed border; Yle television reported that law enforcement officials arrested him.
According to the TV channel, on Sunday, February 8, a man stole a car in the center of Rovaniemi – a car belonging to one of the food delivery services, took a bank card found in the car and made several purchases with that card at a local gas station.
At around 16:00 on February 9, the intruder arrived at the border checkpoint in Salle (closed, like the entire Finnish border), climbed over the fence into the checkpoint yard, where a border patrol was already waiting at the gate: the Swede was spotted on CCTV cameras.
The man told the border guards who detained him that he was on his way to Russia. He was tested with a breathalyzer, which showed his blood alcohol level was above the legal limit.
Law enforcement officials have opened several criminal cases against the Swedes: illegal border crossing, drunk driving, car theft and fraud with payment instruments.
It was previously reported that in February 2017, a 32-year-old Swedish tourist spent a large amount of money in Spain on a party with drugs, alcohol and girls.
After the party, the man stole a fuel tanker and drove to Barcelona.
The police had a very difficult time stopping the car; Law enforcement officials have even had to use weapons. Bullet marks were later found in the car.
