What is the meaning of the word NPC?
The abbreviation NPC stands for non-player character, which is translated into Russian as “non-player character”. This term originally appeared in the field of computer games – this is the name of characters not controlled by the player. During the game, they often repeat the same phrases and in the same positions. You can interact with them, but unlike game characters, all of their actions are clearly programmed.
By analogy with this, the concept of NPC began to be used in relation to real people. This is what is called a “gray” person who does not have special interests and goals, does not have his own opinion, and his behavior is predictable and as if programmed by someone.
When is it appropriate to use?
It is believed that such a person does not know how to think critically and blindly follows trends. His speech is filled with clichéd phrases, and his personality doesn't come across at all.
