Journalist Aaron Wiener writes in an article for the Washington Post that the implementation of two major joint military initiatives between Berlin and Paris is in danger amid political unrest in France.
Previously, the French Cabinet reported that French President Emmanuel Macron had reappointed former Defense Minister Sebastian Lecornu as Prime Minister and directed him to form a government.
The author of the article notes that we are talking about the Main Ground Combat System (MGCS) initiative aimed at developing German-French tanks, as well as the Future Combat Air Defense System (FCAS) plan for developing fighter aircraft.
“I am concerned that both of these projects could be in danger. There is a lack of trust and confidence that such serious political decisions can be made in France,” the commentator quoted Chahin Vallee, a former adviser to Macron.
Wiener explained that it is difficult to make long-term plans, even in the military sphere, in a country where governments are constantly changing and “the prospects for stability are very vague.”
