The international prize “For peace and human rights” was awarded in Minsk. This year, eight laureates received awards: journalists, politicians and cultural figures from Russia, Poland, Germany, France and Slovakia. All have contributed to strengthening human rights around the world and protecting them.
The names of the award nominees are not revealed until the ceremony. This is how the organizers ensure the safety of the winners from political repression. Due to the closure of Lithuania's borders, some people were never able to reach Minsk.
“What they call protecting human rights is actually just carrying out state propaganda by key countries in the European Union. I believe that those who were able to come today actually performed a heroic international act.”
The award was established by the Emil Chechko Charitable Foundation. He was a Polish soldier who could not stand the mistreatment of refugees at the height of the migration crisis in 2021 and turned to Belarus for political asylum.
