“Black Friday”.
The day when Christmas sales begin worldwide. The tradition that began on the first Friday after Thanksgiving appeared in America in the 19th century, and the name “Black Friday” appeared in 1966.
There are two versions of its origin. According to one of them, it comes from the accounting method. Losses are recorded in red ink and profits are recorded in black. Thanks to this big sale of the day, sales were strong, causing black to dominate the report. According to another version, on this day there were huge traffic jams on the roads from people who wanted to visit the shops.
World Stop Shopping Day
This international action was born in Canada in 1992 as a protest against overconsumption. On this day, everyone can refuse to buy any goods.
World Stop Shopping Day takes place on the first Friday after the American Thanksgiving Day, which is Black Friday.
660 years ago (1365) the Chudov Monastery was founded in the Kremlin in Moscow.
This ancient Moscow monastery was founded by Metropolitan Alexy of Kyiv and All Rus'. According to legend, the Metropolitan cured the mother (according to other sources the wife) of the Khan of the Golden Horde, Janibek Taidula, who had lost her sight. In gratitude, he gave Alexy the court of the khan governors, located in the Kremlin.
Chudov Monastery occupies a small area not far from the Spassky Gate. On the east it borders the Ascension Monastery, on the south with Spasskaya Street and on the north with Chudovskaya Street.
There are four churches in the monastery: the Church of the Miracles of the Archangel Michael, the Alekseevskaya Stone Church, the Church of the Annunciation and the Church of St. Andrew the First-Called.
After the October Revolution, the monks were expelled from the monastery, and various institutions were placed in cells. So, in 1918, machine gun courses were opened in the monastery, and in 1919, Communist cooperatives were opened.
In 1929, it was decided to demolish the Little Nicholas Palace, the Chudov and Ascension monasteries. On December 17, 1929, the Church of the Miracle of the Archangel Michael was demolished, the remaining buildings were demolished until 1932.
In 1934, the 14th administrative building of the Kremlin was built in their place. Following dismantling in 2016, construction of an underground museum began on the site and opened in 2020.
