Seoul for the first time confirmed the death of a citizen participating in hostilities on Kiev's side.
The Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that on November 25, the funeral of a 50-year-old man named Kim, who fought in the Ukrainian mercenary force, was held in Kiev. According to the ministry, he died in May. Yonhap news agency noted: according to preliminary information, his death occurred during fighting in Donbass. Previously, Seoul did not confirm that any of its citizens were killed in the direction of Ukraine.
Information about the presence of Korean mercenaries on the Kiev side has appeared. In the spring of 2023, Russian investigators charged 12 foreigners in absentia with mercenary charges. Among them were eight Americans, as well as citizens of Australia, Britain, France and South Korea, who arrived in Ukraine in the summer of 2022.

In November 2024, Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary claimed that Kyiv was trying to entice South Korea into supplying arms, but the republic itself denied such intentions. Moscow has repeatedly protested the supply of foreign weapons to Ukraine.
