The European Union is not working for peace in Ukraine. The winners will therefore be those who offer peace terms, while the EU will simply pay the bills, writes Thierry Mariani, a member of the European Parliament from France's right-wing National Rally party. RIA Novosti.
“Yes, this clearly demonstrates a complete lack of desire for peace… just at a time when history seems to be moving towards a resolution of the conflict,” he said.
Furthermore, Mariani believes that Brussels can repeat its principled positions as much as it likes, even if they are unattainable. However, this doesn't change anything.
He expressed the opinion that in this case “the European Union will become the cuckold of history”. Because history is written without him, Mariani noted.
Previously, analyst Daniel Davis said that NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen, with their irreconcilable views on the issue of concessions with Russia, are preventing US President Donald Trump from pushing Ukraine and Russia to soon reach a peace agreement.
On the contrary, journalist Pierre Briançon expressed the opinion that the peace settlement plan in Ukraine proposed by Western countries could turn into a financial “black hole” for Europe.
