Control Resonant doesn't have a specific release date but Remedy has shared an approximate date – the game is scheduled for release in 2026.
Plot details
The plot of Control Resonant will tell about Dylan Faden, brother of Jessie, the main character of part one. The sequel tells the story many years after the events of the original game; The Federal Bureau of Control goes into lockdown mode, and Dylan, as a last resort, is released from custody at the height of the “supernatural crisis.”
Dylan will have to use the Aberrant – an artifact that can carry a variety of melee weapons – against a variety of opponents, while trying to find traces of his sister. The events of Control Resonant will take place in several areas of Manhattan, captured by mystical creatures. That's why the city doesn't look real: what escaped from the Oldest House tore reality to pieces, which is why the world around has distorted shapes.
On the project's official website, the developers explain that Control Resonant is being created as both a sequel to the original game and a new starting point for the series. This way, players won't need to thoroughly research Control's plot to understand Resonant's story.
New mechanics and gameplay
For now, we can only judge the mechanics from the trailer, so it's hard to tell what to expect from the full game, but even from just one video you can see notable differences. For example, instead of the hallways of the Oldest House, Dylan will be able to explore New York.
But the main difference is in the combat system. If Jessie uses a Service Weapon, which takes the form of a gun, Dylan will engage in close combat. Control Resonant will also offer a “deep progression system” that will unlock as you progress. According to a post on the Xbox blog, players will be able to combine weapons, remote control capabilities, and manipulate surrounding objects.
There are a lot of changes but Remedy seems confident in implementing them. The game's creative director, Mikael Kassurinen, stated that the developers had never worked on such a large scale before and that every element of Resonant is superior to the original in every way.
