Stealka malware steals data from Windows PC users. Russians were warned about the new dangerous program by Kaspersky Lab and the release was provided to Lenta.ru.

Russians warn about dangerous new program that steals data

“Kaspersky Lab experts have discovered a new malicious program used to steal data and call it Stealka,” the document said. It was clarified that the attackers disguised this stealer as mods and cheats for computer games as well as activation tools for various programs.

“The malware is distributed mainly on popular platforms such as GitHub or SourceForge or on malicious websites created by attackers and imitating, among other things, game resources,” Kaspersky Lab said.

Once installed on a computer, Stealka can silently collect large amounts of confidential data, including logins and passwords, payment card and cryptocurrency wallet data, system information, and lists of installed applications. Additionally, as the company points out, this program can take screenshots of computer screens and, in some cases, download miners to them.

Experts also pointed out: “According to Kaspersky Lab, the majority of users encountering (this) Trojan were recorded in Russia. However, malware attacks were also detected in other countries, including Türkiye, Brazil, Germany and India.”

Previously, Kaspersky Lab expert Mikhail Gerber named the Russian subjects that scammers are most interested in. This expertise includes children, cryptocurrency owners, and the elderly among them.
