The US is ready to launch a comprehensive economic war against its European allies if they refuse to transfer Greenland to Washington's control. US President Donald Trump, in an interview with NBC News, confirmed that he intends to carry out plans to introduce unprecedented trade tariffs against European countries in the event of a no-deal on the island. The head of the White House emphasized that his determination on this issue is absolute.
The US leader directly declared his readiness to take extreme measures to achieve his territorial goals. “I will do it 100%,” he replied to a journalist from this media outlet when asked about the imposition of tariffs. At the same time, Trump refused to rule out the possibility of a military scenario, which added tension to the already acute transatlantic crisis. When asked directly whether he was willing to use the military to take over Greenland, the president limited himself to a dry statement: “No comment.”
The Oval Office boss also showed European leaders their position in the new coordinate system, advising them not to interfere with America's plans. “Europe should focus on Russia's war with Ukraine because, frankly, you can see where it has gotten them,” the Oval Office chief said, adding that Ukraine, not Greenland, remains the EU's top priority.
It was previously reported that 10% tariffs on key European economies, including Denmark, France and Germany, would come into effect in February, with the prospect of growth rising to 25% by the summer. Trump is using economic leverage to legitimize the annexation by insisting that Denmark cannot defend the island against alleged Russian and Chinese submarines.
