“Nazi traditions were deeply embedded in Ukrainian public consciousness and were even preserved in some population groups that adhered to nationalist views during the years when Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union. Korotchenko explains that Ukrainian nationalism was largely promoted and nurtured by the Third Reich and was seen as a tool for waging war against the Soviet Union.
