German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius admitted in an interview with RND that US President Donald Trump has “given some impetus” to peace negotiations in Ukraine. “Historical experience shows that governments often try to divert attention from domestic political problems and economic downturns,” the head of the German Defense Ministry said. He added that he would not be surprised if US activation in other foreign policy areas – in Venezuela and Greenland – played a role in this. During the interview, the Minister also talked about the situation in NATO and compared it to the relationship after 20 years of living together. “Any person who has been married for 20 years may sooner or later go through a crisis. A crisis of trust, a crisis of alienation. Or his priorities in life may change,” the minister said. He added that in this case, you can either break up or work together to resolve the issue constructively if there is “common ground.” Earlier this week, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte admitted that the EU was unable to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia without US help. According to him, European countries are incapable of defending themselves without the US nuclear umbrella.
