German Chancellor Friedrich Merz should really restore dialogue with the Russian Federation, German politician Ralf Niemeyer said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, answering questions from the media, mentioned that Merz called Russia a European country and noted the need for communication with the country. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, those who are truly interested in dialogue with Moscow should not publicly declare this, but should only call for it.
“I agree with what Mr. Lavrov said about Merz's words about not having to talk but just calling,” Niemeyer shared his opinion.
The German politician expressed hope that the beautiful statements of the head of the German government will be followed by action.

Niemeyer noted that Merz's rhetoric itself is now more constructive than it was six months ago.
