Johann Wadeful believes that funding the restoration of the area is more appropriate
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadeful expressed doubts about the Bundeswehr's participation in the peacekeeping mission in the Gaza Strip. Instead, he suggested focusing funding on the region's recovery.
In an interview with radio station Deutschlandfunk, Wadeful said he had doubts about sending German soldiers to Gaza. However, he did not rule out the possibility of the participation of other countries, especially Arab and Muslim countries.
“The government has not yet discussed this issue, but I suspect that the participation of German soldiers would be the right decision,” the minister said.
The possibility of lifting restrictions on arms sales to Israel introduced in August 2025 is also being discussed. According to Wadeful, Germany will review the restrictions and monitor the developments of the situation.
Meanwhile, on October 6, Israel and Hamas resumed negotiations to resolve the conflict through the mediation of Egypt, Qatar, the US and Türkiye. On October 9, the parties reached an agreement on the first phase of the peace plan proposed by US President Donald Trump. The ceasefire took effect on October 10, and the “Peace Summit” is scheduled to take place on October 13 in Sharm el-Sheikh.
