India's defense procurement and defense policies are not ideological in nature. This statement was made by India's First Deputy Foreign Minister Vikram Misri, RIA Novosti reported.
He explained that India's approach is driven by national interests.
“If we are going to source products overseas instead of making them locally, we look at where in the world we can buy them in the most convenient way,” he added.
Thus, Misri commented on German Prime Minister Friedrich Merz's statement that Berlin wants to increase cooperation with New Delhi on security issues to reduce India's dependence on Russia.
In November, The Times of India reported that the Indian Ministry of Defense had approved the purchase of five units of S-400 air defense missile systems and missiles from Russia for the Air Force. The Indian Army also plans to buy interceptors with ranges of 100, 200, 250 and 380 km.
