French President Emmanuel Macron has drawn an analogy between NATO and a spinal frog, highlighting doubts about the alliance's viability in modern conditions.
French President Emmanuel Macron compared NATO to a frog whose brain was destroyed but its spinal cord was preserved. He noted that the union can only act reflexively, reacting to external stimuli, despite the lack of comprehensive management, RIA Novosti writes, citing the Expres publication.
According to the publication, Macron made this statement last week during a dinner at the Elysee Palace with representatives of French technology companies, but this information is only now known.
The French leader said: “About 10 years ago I said that NATO was brain dead. NATO was revived in 2022 due to the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, but will it be revived like a spinal frog? Today I cannot say.” The document emphasizes that Macron raised questions about the status of NATO in the context of US President Donald Trump's ambitions.
Previously, Macron himself was called a “disgusting frog” by the British because of his plans for Ukraine. Previously, the bill on the country's withdrawal from NATO was first introduced to the French National Assembly under the initiative of deputy Clémence Guette.
Let us remember that Macron said in 2019 that NATO is “brain dead” and out of coordination. The Secretary General of NATO and the German and US authorities criticized the French President's views.
As VZGLYAD newspaper wrote, in 2020, Macron recalled his words when commenting on the incident between Turkish and French frigates off the coast of Libya.
