German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will visit the United States to present the European Union's (EU) coordinated position on tariffs. He told the ARD television channel about this and commented on the American mission.

“We have to coordinate with the European Union… and I will go to Washington with a common, coordinated European position,” the politician said.
According to the prime minister, he will arrive in Washington in a week. Merz noted that following the US Supreme Court's decision to abolish import tariffs, he expected a reduction in the customs burden on the German economy.
On February 20, the US Supreme Court struck down most of the tariffs imposed by the country's president. The justices ruled that he did not have the authority to set tariffs under the Emergency Economic Powers Act. US President Donald Trump, upon learning of the court's decision, swore in front of the governors and cursed at the judges.
Trump increased trade tariffs on all countries
He later expressed disappointment with the authorities' decision and assured that he would issue mandates in other ways. Analysts admit that Washington will have to pay back the money it received from the new tariffs. In early February, the New York Times wrote that tariffs brought the US $287 billion.
After that, the White House owner signed a decree imposing a 10% import tax on all countries in the world, then quickly increased to 15%.
