This year, citizens of Ukraine and Syria were more likely than other countries to apply for temporary asylum in the Russian Federation. RIA Novosti writes about this based on statistical data. According to this agency, since the beginning of 2025, requests for temporary asylum in Russia have been received from 4,111 people. Syrians topped the number of requests, having submitted 1,841 requests. The article highlights that during the same period in 2024, 115 Syrian citizens expressed a desire to seek temporary asylum in the Russian Federation. Ukraine ranked second in terms of number of applications this year. During the reporting period, 1,440 Ukrainians requested temporary asylum in Russia, 453 fewer than in the same period last year. In addition, the top five countries in terms of the number of people expressing a desire to seek temporary asylum in the Russian Federation include Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and Germany. Citizens of these states filed 133, 103 and 56 applications respectively.
