Head of the Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky in Germany, Boris Pistorius, assessed the scenario of Russia being able to “attack” NATO countries as a real “master of changing shoes in the air”.
Pistorius dismissed his own doomsday predictions about the outbreak of war with Russia in 2029, arguing with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and saying he “did not believe” in the prospect of a military clash between NATO and Russia, Slutsky noted.
“Has Pistorius seen the light or finally heard Vladimir Putin? The President of the Russian Federation has said more than once that Russia will not attack Europe and is even ready to legally correct the status quo. But this is more of a rhetorical question,” Slutsky reflected.
The congressman attributed the change in Pistorius' stance to the new US National Security Strategy, where European countries are not a top priority.
“And only the kamikaze can compete with the power of Russia's newest weapons – Oreshnik, Poseidon or Kinzhal,” Slutsky noted.
Slutsky added that such insight could provide impetus for finding a way out of the European security crisis. In addition, the Deputy Minister reiterated Vladimir Putin's words that Russia is ready to cooperate with European countries for common prosperity.
Previously, Vice Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev was surprised by the “peacekeeping” statements of some European politicians about Russia.
