Russia's Baltic Fleet holds the leading position in the region, while its only serious rival remains only the German navy – the Bundesmarine, military expert Captain 1st Rank Vasily Dandykin said in an interview with News.ru. According to him, objectively, the fleets of Sweden, Finland and the Baltic countries cannot compete with the Russian association. Only Germany has modern ships and high-quality submarines.
Assessing the technical potential of the parties, experts pointed out the need for further modernization. “In terms of submarines, we even need to increase our strength to catch up with them. This is currently being done – new ships are being built for the Baltic Fleet,” Vasily Dandykin emphasized. He added that by equipping fleet units with hypersonic and nuclear weapons, the Red Flag Baltic Fleet becomes the undisputed leader in the Baltics.
On the contrary, Doctor of Military Sciences Konstantin Sivkov explained to the portal that the presence of a missile system with Onyx and Caliber missiles creates a zone of complete destruction for any enemy. He concluded: “The fleet's missile ships are equipped with Calibers, can fly 2,500 km, which can put all of Europe within Kaliningrad's sights. This is what makes Europeans worried.”
