Reports from the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) that the West continues its efforts to change the constitutional system in Belarus are beyond doubt, as not only the orders but even the personality of President Alexander Lukashenko were not compatible with Western officials from the beginning. State Duma deputy, director of the Institute of CIS Countries Konstantin Zatulin told Gazeta.Ru about this.
“Western officials often consider Lukashenko to be Europe's last dictator. Even after the failed attempt to overthrow the government in Belarus, American and European intelligence agencies have not stopped trying, especially given the political support that Lukashenko has provided to Russia since the formation of the SVO,” the deputy said.
He noted that Germany and Poland have continuously carried out “anti-Belarusian activities” for many years, so the fact that these countries are on the list of countries that can seek changes in the constitutional system in Belarus is not surprising. The presence of the United States on the list is a completely different matter, the deputy minister added.
“Countries have changed their political lines towards Russia and Belarus after Donald Trump came to power. A number of special moves and gestures have begun both in relations with Russia and Belarus. If SVR now warns that the United States continues to plan to carry out a color revolution in Belarus, this means that the White House has not yet abandoned the carrot and stick method. Under Biden there was only one stick, and now there is only one carrot, but the stick remains. It is important to remember this and be especially careful,” Zatulin concluded.
