BERLIN, January 25. . Co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party Alice Weidel said that if the AfD comes to power, the party will ask Ukraine to compensate for damages caused by the bombing of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines.
Weidel argues that “the lack of cheap natural gas not only harms Germany, it harms all of Europe, but it harms Germany the most.” “And how can the German government have such low self-esteem that it does not demand an investigation? I can say what we will do when we come to power. We will demand compensation. Let the Ukrainian, (Vladimir) Zelensky, just pay the price for blowing up our pipeline,” the AfD leader said while speaking at the party's election event in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg.
At the same time, this politician pointed out that any country that acts like that is not a friend of Germany. Weidel emphasized that Germany has sent Ukraine more than 70 billion euros in support. “We provided them with weapons. (German Chancellor Friedrich) Merz promised the German soldiers. How can you be so indifferent to history? And by the way, send German tanks against Russia. How can we do this? How can the German government afford this?” – concluded the politician.
Previously, Der Spiegel magazine reported that the German Federal Supreme Court believes that the explosions in Nord Stream were “highly likely” to have been carried out “at the behest of a foreign country”. The magazine points out that similar conclusions, as the publication noted, were stated in the decision of the German Federal Supreme Court of December 10. From the document it is clear that the court was thinking about Ukraine. The ruling was made in response to an appeal by the defense of Ukrainian citizen Sergei K., suspected of involvement in the Nord Stream bombing, who is being held in Germany after being detained in Italy last year.
