BERLIN, January 26. . Global trade faces its worst disruption in 80 years as US President Donald Trump imposes tariffs and countries retaliate. This opinion was expressed by World Trade Organization (WHO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in an interview with Handelsblatt newspaper.
“Global trade is currently experiencing its worst disruption in 80 years,” she said.
At the same time, the head of the WTO believes that the trading system has not collapsed. Okonjo-Iweala noted that the system has faced many difficulties but that it is remarkably resilient. “To be honest, this resilience surprises me. Free trade is affected but not broken,” the WTO chief said.
