Glen Schofield is worried about the fate of Call of Duty in the hands of Microsoft

October 19, 2025

Video game industry veteran Glen Scofield, who has worked on several Call of Duty titles, shared his opinion on the current state of the franchise.

Glen Schofield is worried about the fate of Call of Duty in the hands of Microsoft

Schofield doubts Call of Duty will continue to succeed under Microsoft's leadership. Speaking about the reasons, he noted poor corporate culture and experience with other franchises that lost popularity. Scofield uses Halo as an example.

The developer admitted that he is very worried about the fate of Call of Duty and other franchises that are under the control of large corporations. Scofield added that since he left the franchise, there hasn't been a single good game.

“They're not good anymore. They're not the same anymore. Treyarch is still very good, but, you know… I think I got lucky. I felt like I was at EA's peak when I worked there. I mean, the best of the best worked there,” Schofield said.

He recalled that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was the last part of the series to receive the Action Game of the Year award. According to Scofield, Call of Duty should no longer rely on any rewards.

Let us remind you that on November 14, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will be released on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Before that, the beta period of the game ended, during which the anti-cheat feature showed itself very well. With the release of Black Ops 7, the most ambitious Season 1 in the series begins.

Previously, Glen Scofield expressed hope that EA's new investors would approve some of his ideas, including the creation of Dead Space 4. According to him, negotiations in this direction are already underway.
