Google has effectively disabled the built-in browser for the Sega Dreamcast console, discontinuing PlanetWeb 3.0, the latest and most up-to-date browser version for the device released more than 25 years ago. The iXBT portal reports this.
PlanetWeb 3.0 was introduced in 2001 and became the final version. The first version of the browser was released in 1999, and version 2.0 was released in 2000. Thus, the official history of browser solutions for the Dreamcast spans about 26 years.
It's worth noting that PlanetWeb doesn't come pre-installed with software on the console. The browser is distributed on separate disks and installed manually by the user. Such discs can still be found on trading platforms.
Although support has ended, Sega Dreamcast owners still have access to the Internet. To do this, you can use a third-party fan solution, FrogFind, which generates HTML text pages based on DuckDuckGo search results, tailored to the capabilities of outdated hardware.
