The creators of the football simulation game Rematch talked about changes in the rating system after the latest update.

Demotions will now occur through “shields.” First, players who drop to the bottom of the third division will move into the risk category. For each match in which they fail to score, another “shield” is lost. If two players lose, they will be moved to the “Last Chance” category. Losing it would mean relegation from the league. The developers explain that they tried to maintain high stakes in rated games but reduce emotional stress.
The game's rating-based opponent selection system has also been adjusted. If a gamer plays in the elite class but in terms of points is near the bottom of the table, he will be awarded more points if he wins against a stronger opponent. The authors note that they wanted to introduce a dynamic system from the beginning but it was not successful. They now expect ranked matches to be fairer and rewards to be distributed more equitably.
Now the developers plan to give the new system time and then continue to refine it. They will pay special attention to the issue of finding matches alone and in established groups. The second option makes it much easier for stronger gamers to earn points.
In update number 5, in addition to changes in ratings, attention was also paid to fixing errors when moving, when tackling, when striking and some other situations. We've also fixed issues that arose during online play and noted bugs that haven't been fixed yet.
Rematch is released on June 19 on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. By the end of September, the creative team had finished addressing the problematic cross-play feature and it was available on all platforms.
At the beginning, Rematch received good reviews from the audience, but over time the situation changed, and from “mostly positive” they switched to “mixed”. The football simulator was praised for its visual performance, fun gameplay, and general concept, but the optimization was criticized. Gamers face many errors that greatly affect the game.
