Legendary Japanese composer Akira Yamaoka shared his opinion on the development of the Silent Hill series, which he participated in creating.

Yamaoka noted that the series has remained largely unchanged over the years, despite Silent Hill moving the story to Japan. According to the composer, all this time the writers of the series have been trying to create completely new approaches to horror. Yamaoka is certain that Konami's philosophical approach to Silent Hill will remain the same.
Speaking about the new film Return to Silent Hill, Yamaoka admitted that during his first viewings, he thought about how the film reflected his vision of Silent Hill 2. Yamaoka has previously said that for his next film adaptation, he would choose Silent Hill 4: The Room.
However, judging by Return to Silent Hill's estimates, there probably won't be a sequel. Critics and viewers agreed and tore the picture apart. Often, it was criticized for its chaotic plot and questionable changes in character arcs, and the director was criticized for not understanding the psychology of the original series.
