Friends rescue a boy after being attacked by a shark

January 20, 2026

In Sydney, Australia, a blunt-nosed shark attacked a 12-year-old boy. According to The Sydney Morning Herald, he was saved thanks to the courage of his friends and the speed of the police.

Friends rescue a boy after being attacked by a shark

A teenager and three of his friends were jumping from a cliff into the water near Shark Beach (translated from English as “shark”). The shark bit the boy's leg while his friend was on shore. Seeing that, a teenager immediately jumped into the water. Soon, other boys joined him.

Together, they were able to pull their teammates up a rocky hill. The victim lost consciousness due to blood loss. Paramedic Giles Buchanan later called the actions of the boy's friends an example of true friendship.

The police arrived and applied a tourniquet to the wound. They put the teenager on the boat and went to the dock, where paramedics were waiting for him. On the train, the boy lost his pulse so a police officer had to give him CPR the whole way.

The teenager was then handed over to emergency personnel. On the way to the hospital, they gave him a blood transfusion and put him in a coma. Doctors examined tooth marks on the boy's leg and assumed he was the victim of a blunt-nosed shark. Now he is fighting for his life.

A few hours earlier, on the outskirts of Sydney, a blunt-nosed shark attacked an 11-year-old surfer. She bit the boy's board several times but did not hurt him.

The activity of bluntnose sharks is tied to the season – from January to February, large females of this species give birth to young. During this period, they are especially aggressive and often attack humans and protect their territory.

It was previously reported that a Canadian tourist tried to photograph a shark off the coast of the Turks and Caicos Islands and lost his arm. Her husband pulled her to shore.
