An illegal farm was discovered in the village of Podvyaznovo. The total amount of electricity stolen was 832.5 thousand kWh.
The farm was discovered due to calls from local residents complaining about power surges online. At the same time, mining equipment was found in a dilapidated house amid hogweed bushes.
“For large-scale and especially large-scale theft of electricity, liability is regulated under Article 165 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing property damage due to deception or abuse of trust when there are no signs of theft). The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment of up to 5 years with a fine. In addition, the violator must pay bills that significantly exceed the cost of legally used electricity”, the Rosseti Center reiterates.
