The prosecutor asked for a sentence of seven and a half years in prison for Mechel's former managers.

November 25, 2025

The prosecution asked for seven and a half years in prison for former senior Mechel employees Tatyana Prokofieva and Sergei Rezontov, as well as the former owner of the international UFS group and the Russian investment company Arbat Finance, Elena Zheleznova. Kommersant writes about this.

The prosecutor asked for a sentence of seven and a half years in prison for Mechel's former managers.

At the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow, an argument between the parties took place in a criminal case initiated under the article on fraud on an especially large scale (Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The defendants in this case are the former chief financial officer of Mechel Sergei Rezontov, the head of the company's international contracts and cooperation department Tatyana Prokofieva, and the former owner of the international UFS group and the Russian investment company Arbat Finance Elena Zheleznova.

The state prosecutor called on the court to find all three accused criminals, to sentence each of them to seven and a half years in prison in a colony of the general regime and to a fine of 1 million rubles. In addition, the prosecutor insisted on meeting the injured party's civil compensation claim in the amount of 560 million rubles, but at the same time offered to release all defendants from serving the sentence on the grounds that the 10-year statute of limitations had expired. The lawyers of Elena Zheleznova and Sergei Rezontov respectively asked for their clients' complete acquittal. The exception was Tatyana Prokofieva, who did not object to the termination of criminal prosecution on grounds of non-rehabilitation.

The trial began at Meshchansky Court last September. At this point, not only has the maximum time limit for detaining the defendant expired, but also the 10-year statute of limitations for criminal prosecution.
