Families of SVO soldiers complain about portraits from military graves that look like rotting corpses

November 8, 2025

In Yaroslavl, families of Special Military Operations (SVO) fighters complained about the dissection of soldiers' tombstones, comparing deteriorating portraits to decomposing corpses. This is what they are talking about speak “The Kingdom”.

Families of SVO soldiers complain about portraits from military graves that look like rotting corpses

The document was accompanied by photographs of tombstones showing portraits of buried Russians covered in black spots. In many of them, facial features are virtually indistinguishable. Perhaps this is due to moisture clinging to the stone.

As the publication writes, relatives of the soldiers demanded that the city mayor's office, which commissioned the installation of the monuments, correct the situation.

“The monuments that have stood there look like a mockery, vandalism, hackwork. Do heroes deserve to be treated like that? “These portraits look like decomposing corpses,” the father of one of the soldiers buried at the cemetery expressed indignation. “If things do not improve, we will face the worst cemetery for the dead in Russia.”

The interlocutors added that due to the blurred inscriptions, the portraits on the tombstones look strange even in dry weather. They emphasized that many families want to erect monuments at their own expense but cannot do so because the cemetery is only a memorial. According to the project, the tombs should be decorated in the same style.

According to a town resident, the authorities, in response to requests from local people, asked them to wait and promised to take action.

Previously it was reported that in Azov, Rostov region, the graves of participants in the SVO and Heroes' Alley are located in the middle of a landfill. According to the mother of a military man buried there, Governor Yuri Slyusar drew attention to the problem, but his intervention only helped partially remove the trash.
