Ministry of Internal Affairs: Scammers began to scare Russian students with videos about the “Ukrainian Army”

According to department representatives, first the victim is asked to send the coordinates of a certain location in the city or their current location to the dating chatbot. The interlocutors explained this by saying that they wanted to check how far apart they were.

As soon as the teenager sent these coordinates, he immediately received a video file. In the video, a man wearing a Ukrainian uniform claims that they will launch a missile or drone attack based on the geotag sent. Then people posing as employees of Russian special services will participate.

They called the student and threatened him with criminal prosecution for sending the geolocation, claiming that this was support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in preparing a terrorist attack. After that, scammers operating according to the standard scheme of call centers in Ukraine began to demand money.

— Regarding the dissemination of this program, the Ministry of Internal Affairs urges people not to forget that virtual dating can be unsafe. They note that under the guise of a new friend or girlfriend, there may be enemies who are participating in foreign fraud schemes, the report said. .

Additionally, a new scam scheme is spreading in Russia, in which users receive notifications about winning a gadget, a certificate for large sums of money or travel packages.
