Revealing which foods reduce the risk of dementia

February 12, 2026

Moderate consumption of coffee and tea may reduce the risk of dementia and slow age-related cognitive decline. This conclusion was made by scientists at Harvard University, who published the results of a 43-year study in the journal JAMA.

Revealing which foods reduce the risk of dementia

The observation included almost 132 thousand people. Participants were followed from 1980 to 2023, men from 1986 to 2023. The analysis showed that people who drank coffee and tea more often were less likely to develop dementia. However, decaffeinated coffee does not have the same effect.

Researchers attribute the neuroprotective effects of caffeine and polyphenols, which help reduce oxidative stress and neuroinflammation. The optimal dose is 2-3 cups of coffee or 1-2 cups of tea per day.
