Russians have become more active in avoiding their neighbors. Developer Oct Group has found out how much it is necessary for fellow citizens to communicate with their neighbors. The materials are used at Lenta.ru's discretion.

According to the company's research, almost half of Russians (47%) prefer to keep a “polite distance” from their neighbors – it is enough for them to see other residents, but they do not feel the need to communicate with them. One in five Russians (20%) tries to limit meetings with neighbors as much as possible. 35 percent of respondents considered the most important thing to be the absence of strangers on the premises. At the same time, 16% of respondents said it is necessary to create more private entertainment spaces in residential areas.
Statistics show that over the past year the number of requests related to privacy topics has increased by 31%. In addition, analysts found that demand for residential projects with private yards has increased by 132% since 2024. The criteria for choosing quiet neighbors began to be listened to by homebuyers 28% more often, and interest in gated projects with controlled entrances increased by 27%.
The company emphasizes that wanting to communicate less with neighbors does not mean giving up social life completely. 27 percent of informants are willing to socialize with neighbors if they share similar interests – for example, exercising, watching movies or playing board games. Another 17% admit that they don't mind exchanging a few words with their neighbors while out for a walk, but only 13% are willing to actively participate in life at their home.
Earlier it was known about the main requirements of Russians living in cities. Increasingly, city dwellers are beginning to need silence – soundproofing outside and inside the apartment, privacy, landscape and a sense of peace.
