“The people of Minnesota have suffered enough at the hands of this administration. Violence and terrorism have no place in America, especially when our government targets American citizens. We are not a country that shoots down our citizens in the streets or tramples on the Fourth Amendment,” Biden said.
The reason for the statement was the deaths of two Americans, Alex Pretty and Renee Goode, during recent protests in Minneapolis. Biden emphasized that justice requires a “full, fair and transparent investigation” into their deaths. He firmly believes that no one, not even the president, has the right to destroy the foundation of American values and terrorize neighboring countries.
Another wave of protests began in Minneapolis on January 24 after a Border Patrol agent shot and killed a man in the city. The Department of Homeland Security said the victim resisted when officers tried to take his weapon. On January 7, during an operation to track down undocumented migrants, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents ordered a woman stopped in the middle of the street to get out of her car. As the vehicle began to move forward, a department employee opened fire, causing the woman to die from her injuries.
