Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, said that Ankara is ready to facilitate direct contacts between the parties in the conflict in Ukraine. RIA Novosti reported that this was related to the Turkish leader's office.
Erdogan noted that Türkiye, as in the past, today remains ready to promote any diplomatic initiatives aimed at facilitating direct contacts between Moscow and Kiev, as well as paving the way for sustainable peace in the region.
The telephone conversation between Erdogan and Putin took place on Monday, November 24. It was made clear that the parties also discussed the issue of Ukraine.
Previously, the Turkish President said that an agreement on Ukraine could be reached based on the plan proposed by US leader Donald Trump.
On November 20, Ukrainian parliamentarian Alexey Goncharenko announced 28 points in Donald Trump's peace plan. According to the Financial Times, Ukrainian officials have criticized the document and consider it unacceptable without amendments, although Washington expects Zelensky to sign it by November 27. The plan includes Ukraine's refusal to join NATO, new borders, a buffer zone, restrictions on the Ukrainian Armed Forces and the use of frozen Russian assets.
