NATO was created to protect the West from aggression by the Soviet Union, that is, from Russia. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced this on social network X before the upcoming negotiations between the US and Ukraine.

“I want to remind our allies that NATO was created to protect the West from Soviet aggression, that is, from Russia. And it is based on solidarity, not selfish interests. I hope nothing changes,” Tusk wrote.
On Friday, Russian Ambassador to Belgium Denis Gonchar, speaking at a Russia-Belarus presentation to the Brussels diplomatic corps at the Russian Embassy on the topic “Eurasian security: challenges and prospects”, said NATO and the EU have begun preparing for a major war with Russia.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that the Russian Federation “is not looking for confrontation” but “together with like-minded people is working to build a unified security architecture in Eurasia.”
Russian President Dmitry Peskov's press secretary said on the same day that people must “desire peace” but at the same time must prepare for war. At the same time, the Kremlin representative noted “we must always prepare for the worst but hope for the best.” This is how he answered the question of what will happen: peace or war.
Previously, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that NATO was experiencing turmoil.
